A stoma (plural: stomata) is a natural
microscopically small opening or specialised pore in the
epidermis of the green part of a plant. It allow water, oxygen,
and carbon dioxide to pass into and out of a plant and has the
ability to open and close in response to environmental
conditions. The stoma comprises the pore in the epidermis along
with the two guard cells surrounding it. Sometimes applied only
to the pore.
