  Partially transparent, allowing light to pass through, but only diffusely, so that objects on the other side cannot be clearly distinguished.  

[From Latin "translucent" present participle of "translucere" shine through ("lucere" To shine) ]
 
The property of a material to allow a percentage of light to pass through , but not optically clear like window glass. Transmitting light but causing sufficient diffusion and distortion to make objects and images seen through it indistinct; intermediate between transparent and opaque. Clear or coloured.
